About This Episode
Dr. Frances Meredith brings a rare perspective—combining decades in traditional medicine with a bold transition into functional healthcare and entrepreneurship. In this episode, she shares how limitations in the conventional medical system led her to build a practice centered on root-cause healing, patient ownership, and long-term wellness.
Through her company, Stribling Springs Wellness, Dr. Meredith focuses on understanding the full picture of a patient’s health—often uncovering underlying issues missed by traditional care. She explains how functional medicine shifts the role of the physician from “fixer” to guide, empowering patients to take responsibility for their outcomes.
The conversation also dives into her second venture, MyConcussionDR, born out of a personal experience with her son’s concussion. What followed was a deep exploration into brain health, leading to the development of a product designed to support recovery immediately after head trauma. Dr. Meredith explains the science behind early intervention and why timing is critical.
Throughout the discussion, Henry and Dr. Meredith connect healthcare to broader entrepreneurial themes—risk-taking, building teams, trusting expertise, and solving real-world problems.
This episode offers valuable insights for entrepreneurs, operators, and investors interested in healthcare innovation, preventative strategies, and building mission-driven businesses.

Henry Harrison:
Welcome to the Henry Harrison Podcast, Entrepreneurs, Business & Finance. Today, we have one of my oldest friends. We’ve known each other since childhood—our families were close, and we grew up together from elementary school to now.
Dr. Meredith has always been a strong student, attending top schools like Duke, Cornell, and the University of Virginia. She’s now transitioned into entrepreneurship alongside her medical career. Frances, welcome to the show.
Dr. Frances Meredith:
Good morning, Henry. Great to see you.
Henry Harrison:
Let’s start with what you’re doing now. You have two entrepreneurial ventures, which is not typical for most doctors. Tell us about them.
Dr. Frances Meredith:
Entrepreneurship is new for me—really just the past few years. I spent most of my career in traditional medicine, working alongside brilliant doctors who handled the business side.
Eventually, I reached a point where I needed to practice medicine in a way that aligned with who I am. That led me to start Stribling Springs Wellness, a functional medicine practice in Raleigh and Cary, North Carolina.
We focus on deeply knowing our patients—treating them like family. It’s similar to how medicine used to be practiced decades ago, where doctors understood the full context of a patient’s life.
The second venture is MyConcussionDR, where I’m a co-founder. Our mission is to spread awareness about cutting-edge concussion strategies and help people recover more effectively after head injuries.
Henry Harrison:
For people unfamiliar, what’s the difference between functional medicine and traditional primary care?
Dr. Frances Meredith:
Traditional medicine excels in areas like trauma care, infectious disease, and surgery. Those systems are incredibly effective.
Where it struggles is preventative care.
Functional medicine focuses on optimizing wellness across all systems of the body. It requires time and a deep understanding of the patient. I typically spend two hours on an initial intake.
Instead of acting as the “fixer,” I act as a translator. The patient is the expert on their own body. My role is to help interpret what their body is telling them and guide them toward balance.
Henry Harrison:
So many patients come to you after trying everything else?
Dr. Frances Meredith:
Exactly. Many have seen multiple specialists over years and still don’t feel better. They’re often told everything looks normal.
By the time they reach me, they’re frustrated—but also hopeful. Often, it’s the first time they feel truly heard.
Henry Harrison:
Can you give an example of what you see?
Dr. Frances Meredith:
A common case is autoimmune-related symptoms—fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, joint pain, and sleep disruption.
We start by identifying a “pivot point”—when things changed. It might be a traumatic event, an injury, or environmental exposure.
Once we identify those factors and address them, the body can return to balance. I’ve seen patients reverse conditions like Hashimoto’s in a matter of months.
Henry Harrison:
Let’s talk about the business side. What was it like starting your own practice?
Dr. Frances Meredith:
It was scary. I had avoided that side of medicine for years.
But I was supported by my patients, my team, and trusted advisors. I rely heavily on people who are experts in their areas—technology, accounting, and administration.
That allows me to focus on what I do best: working with patients.
Henry Harrison:
Let’s shift to your concussion business. How did that start?
Dr. Frances Meredith:
It started with my son’s concussion in 2023. It wasn’t handled well, and his recovery changed both his trajectory and mine.
At the same time, I was noticing that many of my patients’ chronic issues traced back to head injuries.
We began researching and discovered that immediately after a concussion, three key systems are disrupted:
Energy production in the brain
Inflammation
Toxin clearance
We built a product designed to address those systems in the critical early hours after injury.
Henry Harrison:
Have you seen results?
Dr. Frances Meredith:
Yes. One example is a physician who experienced severe whiplash. Within 24 hours, she couldn’t work.
After starting our protocol, her symptoms improved significantly within days, and she was back to full capacity within two weeks.
Another case was a 13-year-old girl who recovered from symptoms within a week after starting early intervention.
Henry Harrison:
This seems like it could have major long-term implications.
Dr. Frances Meredith:
It does. Studies show that even a single concussion can impact long-term education and life outcomes.
We now think of it not just as a traumatic brain injury, but a “total family injury” because of its ripple effects.
Henry Harrison:
